Mixtape Mixology #24: Pumped Up Mix
We saw them last night, they were reeeeally great. I mean truly GREAT. As in, “Whoa, come check out my buddies band, they’re cool… than BOOM, they are selling out 2 nights at the El Rey (and well on their way to selling out 2 nights at the Wiltern…)… and the rest is history and to come.” It’s really gratifying to be able to tell people about a band that are not only make great music but also knowing that Mark is such a hard working and good guy.
During the show last night, the highlights were the fact that all the songs were highlights… even the album cuts I don’t care too much about. The energy was high, there performance genuine… just the right amount of cool and the right amount of passion, with a touch of madness and maybe a sprinkle of nerves. I appreciated he went ahead and gave a long shout out to his pals at Alcove… still claiming he can make a better latte than anyone there. Sure Mark, and I bet you stock more than 2 plastic cups rows…
At the end of the night, we ended up at La Cita for some funpartydancysexytime DJ set by Mark and the kids, the night ended with draaanks jack and cocacola or soemthing… I don’t remember…. did I have warm tequila, a judicious quick exit into a Prius ninja cab and off to bed with tipsy Onion in tow. A good night.
