Mixtape Mixology #25: Carmageddon Mix

Yeah, really… not that big a deal. Bike to your closest theater to watch Harry Potter. But, if you happen to be caught on a thoroughfare in SoCal, here is a playlist that should carry you… about one exit.

Playlist:

1.) Intro-mageddon

Epic, courtesy of Carmina Burana by Orff… and a little Steven Tyler.

2.) Keep the Car Running (Foo Fighters) – The Arcade Fire

This is a decent live recording of Dave Grohl and some Foos doin’ one of my favorite Arcade Fire songs. Dave has good taste in music, I remember hearing him rant about My Morning Jacket before they ever had any radio play. As a result, I bought their album It Still Moves. Grohl is okay in my book.

3.) Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box – Radiohead

I remember seeing Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl an they dedicated this song to the traffic on the 405 in LA. This was in 200…9? Basically, Radiohead is responsible for Carmageddon. Damn you Yorke! Damn YouuuuuuuuuuUUUUU!!!

4.) No Cars Go – The Arcade Fire

Yeah, no shit.

5.) Drive Slow – Kanye West

Kanye is making lemonade outta lemons. You Drive Slow homey to show off your rolls (that’s what I’m gonna start calling cars.) Yeah, that’s why you would want to take a freeway this weekend: to show off your rolls.

6.) Why Don’t We Do it in the Road – The Beatles

Might as well, you’re not goin anywhere.

7.) Drive – The Cars

This is the first song I thought of to make this mix, the mix was built around this song that I thought was the one from Say Anything. It isn’t.

8.) Crosstown Traffic – Jimi Hendrix

Uh, Get it?

9.) Little Honda – Yo La Tengo

Well, if you were on a Honda motorcycle, traffic may not be too bad, although, when people are in the car long enough, they tend to go crazy… watch for the open door.

10.) Bad Habit Intro – The Offspring

Ridin in My Car – She and Him

Nothing goes better together than Offspring (thanks Brian) and the golden tunes of She and Him.

11.) Everybody Hurts – REM

Yeah, so get out of your car and find yourself…

12.) Jump in My Car – David Hasselhof

I got some heat for not including Hasselhof in Krautrock mix… even though he sounds nothing like that specific style of music… he’s not even German… anyways, this song is deep. Check out the music video and get your dome blown.

13.) Road to Nowhere – The Talking Heads

It’s gonna seem like that….

14.) The Bike Song – Mark Ronson

Leave your car at home, ride your bike.

15.) I don’t Want to Miss a Thing – Aerosmith

You’ll be missing everything if you’re stuck on a freeway.
